Screenwriting 101: Back to Basics
Beginner screenwriting workshop & film industry mixer
Back to school—without going back to school.
Aren’t We All Productions is hosting a beginner-friendly screenwriting workshop and film mixer at ECP Studios for actors, aspiring screenwriters, playwrights, filmmakers, and anyone looking to strengthen their storytelling skills.
Led by award-winning filmmaker and screenwriter Aleah P. Carreau, an alumna of Toronto Film School’s Writing for Film & TV program and Falmouth University’s screenwriting program, the workshop will give participants practical tools for taking an idea and beginning to shape it into a screenplay.
You’ll learn how to structure a story using the three-act structure, translate ideas into visual action on the page, describe specific shots without relying on technical camera language, and identify what you truly want to say through your story. You’ll leave with foundational techniques you can apply to your own screenwriting, whether you’re starting your first script or developing an existing idea.
Participants will also have the opportunity to share their work in small groups and receive peer feedback.
Afterwards, join us for a relaxed film mixer with fellow Montreal creatives and homemade desserts from some of our favourite family recipes.
Proceeds from the event will support Aren’t We All Productions’ upcoming short film, Girlhood, and event costs.
